Car Assisted Ride on Tuesday 20th October
As you can see from the latest runs list there is an assisted run on the above date starting at the Chappel and Wakes Colne Railway Museum at 10 am.
I am informed that there is a free car park so we could assemble there.
We can ride the short distance to Earls Colne for elevenses at P.J's (suggested by Don Cook) and refresh ourselves after the drive. We can then set off for the lunch stop at The Cock Inn Polstead
I have issued this note in good time so that we have time to organize who travels with whom.
Get together and sort out who drives etc. and we can minimise the cars and share the costs. It is about 24 miles from Rayleigh and if you travel along the A12 hopefully!! we should be going the opposite way to most of the traffic. I suggest that we would need to clear the Turnpike a little after 9.00am if travelling from the Southend area.
This ride is prior to the clocks going back so daylight should not be a problem.
Polstead is an interesting village and if you wish you can look up the Red Barn Murder on the internet, this took place in the village and was a big news item in its day.

Directions from Southend and Chelmsford to the Chappel and Wakes Colne Railway Museum
Leave A12 at Junction 26 (Colchester Zoo Turnoff) and follow the A1124 towards Halstead, after around 5 miles you will see a large railway viaduct proceed under this and turn right at the cross roads, we are a short distance up the hill in the railway station.
